WorldSkills Zhetysu
Regional Championship of Professional Skills
WorldSkills Zhetysu is an annual regional professional skills competition held in the Zhetysu region.
The championship’s main goal is to develop young people’s professional skills, prepare competitive specialists for the labor market, and improve the quality of technical and vocational education in accordance with international WorldSkills standards.
History and development
The WorldSkills competition was first held in the Zhetysu region in 2018.
Since then, the project has become an important platform for students from colleges and educational institutions in the region to demonstrate their professional skills and expertise.
Each year, the championship expands to include new competencies, and the number of participants steadily grows.
Examples:
- 2018–2020 — competitions were held in more than 15 competencies;
- 2021–2023 — IT, construction, service, and creative professions have been added;
- 2024–2025 — approximately 30 competencies were covered, and the number of participants reached 175–200 people.
Competencies
The WorldSkills Zhetysu regional championship annually includes the following areas:
- IT and digital technologies: web technologies, mobile application development, system administration, automation of business processes on the 1C platform;
- Engineering and manufacturing specialties: welding technologies, electrical installation work, engineering graphics (CAD), furniture production, automobile repair;
- Service sector and creative professions: cooking, baking and confectionery, fashion technology, hairdressing, hotel service;
- Pedagogical and social areas: teaching in primary grades, preschool education, veterinary science;
- Media and design: graphic design, video editing, prototyping.
In total, students compete in approximately 25–30 competencies , demonstrating their knowledge and practical skills.

Participating colleges
Leading colleges of the Zhetysu region participate in the championship annually, including:
- Taldykorgan Higher Polytechnic College,
- Taldykorgan College of Service and Technology,
- Zhetysu Industrial College,
- Karatal Agrarian and Technical College,
- Panfilov Multidisciplinary College,
- As well as other educational institutions in the region.
Many colleges are becoming venues for competitions. For example, in 2025, a number of competencies were held at the Atameken Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
