Kuanysh Serdeshkyzy, a specialist teacher and moderator at the Taldykorgan Higher Polytechnic College, held an open lesson on “Controls. Working with Controls” for the SW-311b group on November 5, 2025, for the module “Preparing Software Modules for Programming and Analyzing All Sections of Program Code.”
Controls are the fundamental building blocks of Windows Forms applications written in C#. They make the interface user-friendly, intuitive, and functional. The goal of this open lesson was to explain the types, properties, and events of controls and how to connect them to a program. During the lesson, the instructor introduced students to commonly used controls: Button, Label, TextBox, CheckBox, RadioButton, ComboBox, ListBox, PictureBox, Panel, GroupBox, and others. The basic properties (Text, Name, Size, Font, Enabled, Visible, BackColor) and events (Click, TextChanged, CheckedChanged) of each control were demonstrated using examples.
During the paired work, students were tasked with creating a small interface. Each pair completed tasks such as creating a simple form, assigning events to buttons, processing input data, and displaying the results on the screen. The instructor explained the correct techniques for working with C# code and writing event-based functions.
A distinctive feature of the open lesson was the use of various methods, and notes were developed to create a psychological atmosphere during the lesson. The Spinner platform was used to check homework, capturing students’ attention. The pair work method was unique: students were divided into pairs based on their mood. The “Pictures Speak” method was used to open the new lesson. A test assignment for verification was provided on Blooket.com. The lesson was structured according to the stated goal.
By the end of the lesson, the students had a complete understanding of the application of control components and the specifics of working with events in C#. The open lesson achieved its goal, heightening students’ interest and reinforcing their practical skills.
