From May 12 to May 15, 2026, the regional professional skills championship “WorldSkills Zhetysu – 2026” was held in Taldykorgan. Students and young professionals from technical and vocational education institutions of the Zhetysu Region took part in the large-scale competition.
The main goal of the championship is to increase the prestige of skilled trades, develop the professional skills of young people, promote competencies that are in demand in the labor market, and support talented young specialists.
This year, the championship was organized across 38 competencies. A total of 231 participants from 24 educational institutions competed in the event. The championship covered the fields of IT and digital technologies, graphic design, industrial and engineering technologies, agriculture and construction, service industries, and education.
The participants’ work was evaluated by 32 independent experts in accordance with international WorldSkills standards. In addition, several special competencies were introduced with the support of sponsors, including video editing, 1C, pastry arts, Hotel Reception, and other areas.
WorldSkills is an international movement aimed at developing professional excellence. For more than 70 years, WorldSkills has been improving vocational training standards and creating opportunities for the professional growth of young specialists. Kazakhstan joined the WorldSkills movement in 2014.
As a result of the championship, Taldykorgan Higher Polytechnic College achieved outstanding results and ranked among the leaders in the overall medal standings. The college won:
— 12 gold medals;
— 10 silver medals;
— 14 bronze medals;
— 15 Medallions for Excellence.
The championship concluded with an official closing ceremony, during which winners and prize holders were awarded, and all participants received certificates.
